This retreat begins with an easy-to-follow guided meditation practice. Rosamaría then skillfully leads you on a sound bath journey as she employs the incredible resonance of both Tibetan and crystal bowls, chimes, and more. The experience completes with a period of restful silent meditation. Participants are encouraged to practice in a comfortable position either lying down or seated. Combining the modalities of meditation and sound waves can support deep relaxation and healing in your body and mind, and may enable you to cultivate awareness and deeper states of consciousness.
All are welcome, including those who have never meditated before.
Rosamaría is passionate about sharing mindfulness practices in communities with limited exposure to meditation and wellness modalities. She teaches in both Spanish and English in non-profit organizations, public schools, and for people dedicated to socio-economic and environmental justice in the Los Angeles area and Mexico.
We meet in the beautiful Gabrielson Chapel which serves as our meditation hall in the Belmont Shore area of the City of Long Beach. This is a shared community space which is ADA Accessible, LGBTQ+ welcoming, and there are gender neutral restrooms.
The doors close promptly at the start of the session. We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early to make tea if you prefer and get settled. Upon entry we ask that you silence your devices. If you arrive after the start of the program, please knock and we will happily open the door for you.
Parking: There is a free lot across Granada Ave. There is free public parking available except from noon Saturday through noon Sunday. Street parking is also available. Please observe all parking signs.
Equipment: For your comfort there are padded chairs, meditation benches (seiza), firm sitting cushions (zafu), floor mats (zabuton), and small blankets to choose from. You may also bring your own sitting equipment.
The Buddha instructed his students to observe the Full Moon, traditionally known as the Uposatha, by gathering together and practicing meditation in community.
We offer a donation funded Scholarship Program in support of our mission to provide meditation practice at a low cost. If you are unable to pay for an event or retreat we invite you to apply for a reduced fee and ask that you contribute what you are able to. This is a donation funded program and no one is turned away for lack of funds.
