Patience is an Act of Self-Compassion

By DonationResource Dharma Talk
We live in an impatient society, expecting everything to be done quickly and to see fast outcomes. When results are not quick enough, we often lose interest or become impatient, failing to pause to be in relationship with life. We gather to reflect and practice patience (khanti), the sixth of the ten paramis, as a benevolent, gentle, and beautiful beneficial quality.

The ten paramis in the Theravāda tradition are a way of conceptualizing the interdependent qualities of a flourishing human life. (1) generosity (dāna), (2) morality (sīla), (3) renunciation (nekhamma), (4) insight (pañña), (5) energy (viriya), (6) patience (khanti), (7) truthfulness (sacca), (8) resolution (adhiṭṭhāna), (9) loving-kindness (metta), and (10) equanimity (upekkhā).
