About Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is an ancient meditation practice that supports psychological, physical, and spiritual healing. Integrative Restoration, or iRest®, is an adaptation of Yoga Nidra developed over the last 30 years by Richard C. Miller, PhD. The iRest course respects your age, culture, religion, and philosophical orientation. It teaches self-care tools that lead to the experience of self-mastery, resilience, and well-being.

iRest Yoga Nidra is a research-based, trauma-sensitive meditation, relaxation, and healing protocol that deeply calms the nervous system, supports the integration of negative emotions and thoughts, and helps to build resilience with everyday challenges. Current research suggests that iRest Yoga Nidra effectively reduces stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, chemical dependency and post-traumatic stress. iRest is also a path of meditative self-inquiry.

At a basic level, it provides the initial building blocks for a mindfulness practice in which one learns to stay present and alert. At an intermediate level, one learns how to meet challenging experiences, emotions or beliefs in order to integrate and go beyond them. At the highest level, iRest offers the teachings of the “end path” of direct realization into one’s true nature as abiding peace, infinite calm, and interconnected wholeness.

iRest is practiced lying down or in a comfortable sitting position with blankets for support. Please bring comfortable clothing, a yoga mat and blanket if available. Limited yoga mats and blankets will be available.

About the Retreat

This day retreat will begin with guided Yoga Nidra Integrative Restoration iRest practice. After lunch, we will chant the Heart Sutra and have three periods of seated and two periods of walking silent meditation. We’ll end our day together with a Dharma Talk on Yoga Nidra and Zen with time for questions and answers. We will learn to heal and integrate our conditioned self with our true self. They never really were separated. We just got distracted!

Lunch: Please bring your own light lunch to the event. We will have access to a refrigerator. Cold and hot water, as well as snacks will be provided.
