Treat yourself to a beautiful meditative and relaxing experience using sound to invite gentle yet powerful therapeutic and restorative processes to nurture your mind and body. Held in the Gabrielson Hall, Long Beach Meditation teacher Rosamaría Segura skillfully leads a sound bath journey as she employs the incredible resonance of both Tibetan and crystal bowls, chimes, and more. The experience completes with a period of restful silent meditation. All are welcome, including those who have never meditated before. There is limited capacity for this popular event and spaces go quickly. Reserve your place early.
Beach Cleanup & Ocean Meditation
By volunteering to help remove trash before it infiltrates our coastal waters, you are helping protect aquatic wildlife along the Long Beach, Orange, and Los Angeles coast. After the cleanup we join together in a guided meditation on the beach. Long Beach Meditation co-sponsors this event with community activist Justin Rudd and his Community Action Team which has been doing this valuable work since 1999.
You Can Help Us Reach Our Pledge of 25 Volunteers
Our Beach Cleanup & Ocean Meditation is held quarterly on a Saturday at 9:30AM. Volunteers meet at Rosie’s Dog Beach and progress cleaning towards both the Belmont Pier and the Peninsula. Following the clean up, join our selected Long Beach Meditation teacher for a 30 minute meditation. We will practice standing and walking meditation, immersing ourselves in the sounds and sensations of the ocean and its surroundings. This is a family friendly event, hosted rain or shine and all are welcome. Sign up today to help us meet our pledge and to make a difference.
Full Moon Uposatha
The Buddha instructed his students to observe the Full Moon, traditionally known as the Uposatha, by gathering together and practicing meditation in community. This quarterly event is a powerful time to deepen and renew our practice as we align our lives with our highest values and intentions.
Special Evening Meditation
Attend the Full Moon Uposatha in our sacred candlelit meditation hall for a beautiful evening with teacher Franz Manfredi as he leads us through guided and silent meditations. He shares readings from the teachings of the Buddha, and we are invited to participate together in traditional Buddhist chants. Open seating is available on a first come basis and all are welcome.
Youth Meditation
The Dalai Lama once said, “If every 8 year old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world within one generation.”
These youth meditations are geared toward engaging young, curious and loving minds. Here you have an opportunity to accompany the children in your life and participate together in a meditation program designed by educator professionals. Beginning with a welcoming introduction, a clear guided meditation is led by one of our experienced teachers, followed with a simple dharma teaching and a period of sharing. This is concluded with a short meet and greet to connect both with community and other participants. Join us and share a moment of peace and clarity with our youth amidst the busyness of daily life.
Meditating in Nature
We periodically offer outdoor meditations events within the broader community. Our select experienced teachers providing guided instruction in a welcoming open space. These are an invitation to bring your practice off of the cushion and into the greater world. Discover unique Long Beach locations alongside other like minded meditation practitioners.
Practicing with Community
Outdoor meditation events present new avenues to deepen your practice, engage with others, and make a meaningful difference in yourself and to those around you. Together we are on this journey to cultivate peace and well being for the benefit of all.
Support Urban Farming
Attend one of our volunteer events to help local farms and community gardens. By supporting urban agriculture, we can increase the availability of fresh, healthy foods, improving food and nutrition security for ourselves and our neighbors.
The historical Buddha used the Pali word “Bhavana” (cultivation) to describe how we grow and nurture a beautiful life, similar to how a farmer produces a bountiful harvest. Gardening, a profoundly rewarding activity, connects us to the earth, yielding a rich harvest, and providing wholesome nutrition that helps to fuel a healthy and happy existence.
