An Introduction to Our Teachers
One of the most unique features of Long Beach Meditation stems from our teaching staff who bring a rich diversity of life experiences. For example, unlike some other centers we are honored and proud to have teachers from many of the major streams of Buddhist traditions. This provides our visitors with a variety of thoughtful pathways to explore the practice of meditation, Dharma, and the teachings of the Buddha. Our Teachers represent lineages of Soto Zen, Vajrayana, Vipassana, Theravada, Dzogchen, and Seon (Korean Zen). They express the Dharma in modern, accessible ways, based on the traditional teachings and their long experience as meditators and Dharma practitioners.
Aside from you, the Sangha, the Teachers of Long Beach Meditation are our most valuable assets. We actively support our Teachers growth by providing training opportunities, a voice on the council, and mentorship under the skillful stewardship of our Guiding Teacher, Jokai Blackwell Roshi. This continuing cultivation is evident in the teachings they offer. It is our hope that they will continue to be of benefit to you and all beings.
Moved to bring the heart of realization into the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Jokai emphasizes the direct experience of awakening using contemporary language and time-honored methods.

This world inspires me with all the wonders we can experience. Chaos shakes me out of my slumber. The words of Maya Angelou encouraged me to share the Dharma and give back.
