Sundays
3:00PM - 4:30PM
In Person and Online via Zoom
On Sunday afternoons Long Beach Meditation offers meditation practice and a Dharma Talk by one of our established Teachers and on special occasions invited guests. This class invites participants to find support, guidance, and the energy to do the challenging work of awakening. After a welcoming introduction, the bell is rung to begin our 30-minute meditation. There is a short break to stretch our legs, use the restroom, have a cup of tea, and chat with others. Returning to our seats, the remaining time allows for a Dharma Talk followed by discussion and questions and answers. We concluded with a brief metta chant for those who would like to join:
May all beings be happy and safe from harm.
May all beings be healthy in body and in mind.
May all beings be peaceful and free from suffering.
This class is suitable for all levels of experience and is held both in person and online. All are welcome and no one is turned away for lack of funds.
Upcoming Teachers and Topics
January 12th - GUEST TEACHER Ann Pepper - Equanimity Means Living Wholeheartedly
One of the Four Immeasurables that we aspire to cultivate in our practice, equanimity, means attaining a complete openness to experience. It supports wisdom, loving-kindness and compassion, empathetic joy and courage. How do we grow and use this inner vitality?
January 19th - Jampa Kalsang - Turning the Mind Towards Awakening
How does one begin their journey on the path to awakening? We can begin with four contemplations. The Four Thoughts, or Four Reminders, are foundational teachings that invite us to reflect on the preciousness of our human lives, the impermanence of all things, how we are subject to our actions, and the futility of finding genuine happiness in conditioned existence. Contemplating these thoughts can inspire us to appreciate our lives and to be more present in our everyday experience.
January 26th - Tim Colohan JDPSN - The Morning Bell Chant
From the morning bell chant,
" Great Love, Great Sadness
Our original Teacher,
the golden "just like this" Buddha,
Amitabha, the Buddha of Infinite Time/Infinite Space."We will start off our new year looking into this text for an insight into why we practice and for who.
Cost: Suggested donation of $20 to help keep our doors open, compensate our teachers, and make classes available for those who cannot afford them. No one is turned away for lack of funds. If you would like to join us in this practice of dana or generosity, please consider contributing:
