Sundays
3:00PM - 4:30PM
In Person and Online via Zoom
On Sunday afternoons Long Beach Meditation offers meditation practice and a Dharma Talk by one of our established Teachers and on special occasions invited guests. This class invites participants to find support, guidance, and the energy to do the challenging work of awakening. After a welcoming introduction, the bell is rung to begin our 30-minute meditation. There is a short break to stretch our legs, use the restroom, have a cup of tea, and chat with others. Returning to our seats, the remaining time allows for a Dharma Talk followed by discussion and questions and answers. We concluded with a brief metta chant for those who would like to join:
May all beings be happy and safe from harm.
May all beings be healthy in body and in mind.
May all beings be peaceful and free from suffering.
This class is suitable for all levels of experience and is held both in person and online. All are welcome and no one is turned away for lack of funds.
Upcoming Teachers and Topics
February 2nd - Robert Lurye - Dependent Arising and Disenchanting Cycles of Suffering
Inspired by 'Groundhog Day,' we'll explore Buddhist teachings that help us recognize and disenchant habitual patterns that get in our way. By understanding their impermanent, non-predetermined nature and through cultivating mindfulness and compassion, we can break free from self-created cycles of suffering.
February 9th - Franz Manfredi - Hero of the Lotus Sutra
How does one transcend all limiting beliefs?
Let’s follow the Hero of the 20th Chapter of the Lotus Sutra to find out!
February 16th - Tim Colohan JDPSN - Effort in Zen
Our practice is our life, and our life is our practice. We will take a look at how we do this by looking into an old teaching poem:
"When walking, standing, sitting, lying down, speaking, being silent, moving, being still
At all times, in all places,
Without interruption---what is this?
One moment is infinite kalpas."
February 23rd - Jokai Blackwell Roshi - The Myriad Things Return to the One, Where Does the One Return To?
The realization of Zen lies in deeply embodying the understanding of two key principles: sameness and difference, or alternatively, oneness and diversity. In our exploration, we will examine these principles and highlight their dynamic balance as essential to living an awakened life.
Cost: Suggested donation of $20 to help keep our doors open, compensate our teachers, and make classes available for those who cannot afford them. No one is turned away for lack of funds. If you would like to join us in this practice of dana or generosity, please consider contributing:
