Cultivating the Foundations of Mindful Awareness Meditation

A Five-Week Course

with Rosamaría Segura

Inspired by Writings and Lessons from Women Teachers

Five Consecutive Sundays:
January 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th, and February 2nd
12:30PM - 2:30PM

In Person Only

This Mindful Awareness Meditation program invites you to deepen your practice by exploring the foundational principles of mindfulness—focusing on breath, body, emotions, and thoughts—while drawing from the teachings of contemporary women teachers. The program will provide you with practical tools to integrate mindfulness into your daily routine, establish a sustainable meditation practice, and manage difficult emotions with greater ease and resilience.

“Meditation practice is establishing a relationship with yourself. That is the aim of meditation. It is not a question of achieving a state of trance or mental peace or of manufacturing a higher goal and a higher state of consciousness at all. It is simply that we have not acknowledged ourselves before.” —Thich Nhat Hanh

About the Class

This 5-week course will help in developing an effective and ongoing meditation routine. We will practice the foundations of meditation, effective concentration techniques, and various ways to support ourselves and live a day-to-day mindful life. We'll focus on basic sitting techniques and explore how we can expand mindful awareness beyond the cushion and into our daily life.

Through clear and insightful instruction, practice sessions, and dialogues, we will aim to:

  • Integrate mindful awareness in our daily activities.

  • Implement and sustain daily practice.

  • Increase self-care and equanimity in our day-to-day activities.

  • Attune and align to our intentions and highest values.

  • Understand and manage anxiety and strong emotions.

This course is appropriate for beginners as well as experienced meditators who want to refresh the fundamentals of their practice. Includes handouts, weekly suggestions/homework for support in between classes, and recordings of talks distributed at the completion of the course.

This January course is a regular offering of Long Beach Meditation and has become a source of funding for our ongoing operations. We aim to make our offerings accessible to anyone who would like to learn the art of meditation and mindful awareness, but we have expenses which exceed our donations. To help raise funds, we’ve set up this campaign with a goal of $3,000.

With your help, Long Beach Meditation can reach this goal and continue the important work of helping our community by raising awareness of the value and benefits of meditation, provide more access to practice, and strengthen our community relationships.  Every donation counts.

In 2024 and 2025, Lenz Foundation grants cover the broad-based field of women’s leadership in Buddhism, bringing women to the foreground in innovative ways and providing support for programs that empower women.
