The Dalai Lama once said, “If every 8 year old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world within one generation.”
Our youth program is offered through classes held on a quarterly basis. We offer a welcoming, inclusive, and safe space for families to practice meditation. Our classes are designed to cultivate kindness, understanding, and connection to our surrounding world. Adults are required to accompany their children to class. While we invite the attending adults to purposefully follow along, we ask that you also help us create space for children’s voices to be centered and amplified.

In-Person Information
We meet in the Gabrielson Chapel of Bay Shore Church on The Toledo and Granada Ave in Belmont Shore. This space is ADA Accessible, LGBTQ+ welcoming, and there are gender neutral restrooms.

The doors will close promptly at the start of the session. We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early to make tea if you prefer and get settled. Upon entry we ask that you silence your devices. If you arrive after the start of the session, please gently knock and we will open the door for you.
Parking: There is a free lot across Granada Ave. Street parking is also available. Please observe all parking signs.
Equipment: We have different styles of zafus (firm sitting cushions), zabutons (floor mats), benches and comfortable chairs on hand. You may also bring your own sitting equipment, a yoga mat and blanket to make your meditation more comfortable.
Clothing and Footwear: Wear comfortable clothing that supports you to feel relaxed. Wear shoes that are easy to put on and take off. Remember that you may spend time sitting, walking, and lying down.
Please: Do not wear scented perfumes and fragrances. Kindly turn off your cell phone for the duration of the event.

Rosamaría is passionate about sharing mindfulness practices in communities with limited exposure to meditation and wellness modalities. She teaches in both Spanish and English in non-profit organizations, public schools, and people dedicated to socio-economic and environmental justice in Los Angeles, East Hollywood, Long Beach, and refugee shelters in Tijuana, Mexico.
She has been part of Long Beach Meditation since 2010 as a sangha member. Rosamaría also served as a board member for three years; in 2019 she joined the teaching group. Rosamaría has trained under the guidance of Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, Trudy Goodman, et al. She completed the Buddhist Introduction to Chaplaincy Training at the Sati Center for Buddhist Studies, and Inelda’s End of Life Doula Training. She continues studying under the guidance of Jokai Blackwell Roshi.
In addition to her spiritual practice, she brings decades of career experience and dedication through community organizing to protect civil rights of immigrants and refugees, and promote worker rights and equitable healthcare access for all. Rosamaría holds an MA in Geography, BA in Cultural Geography and Urban Analysis, and an AA in Human Services and Psychology.

Rosamaría enseña en español e inglés en organizaciones sin fines de lucro, escuelas públicas y personas dedicadas a la justicia socioeconómica y ambiental en Los Ángeles, East Hollywood, Long Beach y centros para refugiados en Tijuana, México.

Christine Pham
Christine has been an Early Childhood Education Teacher for over 15 years. Born and raised in New York City, she has embraced many roles in the realm of education, including preschool teacher, kindergarten teacher, ABA therapist, and Early Intervention Specialist.
Her journey into the world of Buddhism began in college in 2006 when she encountered her first book on the subject. Intrigued by the teachings, Christine immersed herself in the wisdom of various texts and began to explore the path through meditation groups. She visited temples, attended retreats, and embraced a personal practice that deepened her understanding.
In 2019 Christine moved to California, and in 2022 she joined Long Beach Meditation as a sangha member. By 2024, she had taken an important step in her spiritual journey, becoming a student of Tim Colohan JDPSN, Kwan Um School of Zen and one of the teachers at Long Beach Meditation. Her commitment to cultivating mindfulness and deepening her practice continues to grow.
Christine is inspired to weave together her extensive experience in teaching with her passion for Zen to create harmonious meditation spaces for young people and their families. She is dedicated to fostering a nurturing, compassionate environment where the art of meditation can be cultivated and integrated into daily life. Christine wholeheartedly believes that meditation is a vital skill for today’s youth, helping them remain grounded in their true selves and navigate the fast currents of modern existence with clarity, calmness, and confidence.
